Our Year 9 Visual Arts Extension students recently had a very productive day out with members of the South of the River Pottery Club, learning a range of ceramic techniques.
Students learnt how to throw a bowl on the wheel, and had a fun, though at times frustrating, lesson on the importance of hand and elbow placement coupled with speed force and water! Not everything is as easy as it looks on Tiktok.
From there they swapped over to hand-building and utilised different strategies to make a coffee mug with even walls and a solid handle. All the works will be bisque fired at the pottery club before we collecting them for glazing and decorating.
