Congratulations to Year 9 student Declan Somers who competed at the 2021 WA All Schools Championships over the weekend, along with 477 athletes representing 152 different WA High Schools.
The weekend produced 2 new State Records (one of which went to Declan), as well as 8 pending Australian Para Records.
Declan competed in three events, his results were:
Gold in the U16 3000m
Gold in the U16 2000 m steeple chase
& Bronze in U16 1500m
Declan competed the 2000m steeplechase with the state record time of 5 min 56 seconds, beating the old record which was set way back in 2004 before he was born. This was unbelievably only one second off the National Record! This is Declan’s second state record title whilst competing for CVC. The other one was achieved at the inter school competition last week.
