On Thursday 13th May, our Year 10 Indonesian and Italian students spent the day at UWA. We did a tour of the campus with two knowledgeable university students who explained the sites and some different facets of uni life, including the social clubs, free breakfasts and studying outdoors.

We then split into two groups. The Italian students heard from staff and students of UWA who explained what they love about their language studies and the different opportunities for students to continue their language studies. We then sat in on a first-year Italian class, and the students were pleased to be able to follow along with the tutor and show off their Italian skills to their peers. The Indonesian students heard from staff in Indonesian and Asian studies about the many pathways open to speakers of Indonesian. We also met a staff member and former participant of ACICIS who organise in-country Indonesian studies’ programs across all faculties from law to business to medicine.

We finished the day with lunch on the Oak Lawn and a mini language treasure hunt around the Arts building. The day was a great opportunity to gain more knowledge about options for future studies as well as being inspired by the passion of the university staff and students we met.
