The SkillHire VETDSS Program allows secondary school students (Year 11 and 12) to undertake a Certificate II in Building and Construction (Pathway-Trades) over the course of two years whilst remaining at school.
This program allows students to complete their White Card, learn about safe work practices and work effectively in the Construction Industry. It also shows students how to handle tools and equipment, specific to the bricklaying or carpentry trade.
Three of our Year 12 students Kyle, Riley and Jake are currently undertaking this certificate. Jake said the course has given him the basic skills and a competitive edge in order to start a carpentry apprenticeship. He said the skills he has learnt in this course will come in great use wherever he goes. Kyle, who wishes to pursue a career in the army said the course not only gives him a solid back up plan but will certainly come in handy throughout his army career.
