CVC HUB – Education Support

Please ensure that you complete enrolment applications for The CVC HUB prior to end of Term 2, 4 July 2025, to ensure that the school has enough time to assess the applications and plan for a successful transition.

Canning Vale College has a Department of Education Endorsed Education Support Program that is designed to cater for students that have Mild to Moderate needs. This Program is called the HUB.

Eligibility

Education support programs meet the needs of students who have a disability that is expected to be life long.  They typically require substantial or extensive adjustments to enable them to participate in activities and achieve learning outcomes.  Substantial or extensive adjustments may include high level personal and/or medical care.

Education support enrolment criteria for the CVC HUB.

  • evidence that the intellectual disability, physical disability, or autism diagnosis demonstrates eligibility for an individual disability allocation
  • the disability and any co-existing conditions result in a substantially reduced functional capacity to learn that is expected to be life-long

The Program

All students in the HUB are on Individual education plans. The program is designed to ensure that students can gain skills to ensure that they are as  independent as they can be by the time they leave. Students goals for literacy, numeracy, social skills, protective behaviours and life skills are set based on the students needs. Classes have high teacher to student ratio’s in order to meet the diverse needs of the students.

The focus of this program is to develop functional life skills including literacy and numeracy. As part of this program, your child may undertake ASDAN and the ABLEWA curriculum, Certificate Courses and Supported Work Place Learning Programs.

Students in the HUB are able to sit NAPLAN in Year 9 and undertake the OLNA test as required. If you choose to remove your child from NAPLAN and/or OLNA the school will provide you with the required documentation to complete.

It is important that the families understand that accepting a position in the HUB program will most likely result in your child NOT meeting the requirements of secondary education set by SCSA (School Curriculum and Standards Authority) to attain a WACE (West Australian Certificate of Education).

The progress of your child will be reported using the Department of Education’s SEN (Special Education Needs) reporting framework and via IEP (Individual Education Plan) meetings.

Transport

Your child may be eligible for transport assistance from the Perth Transit Authority. You can apply for transport assistance using the following link.
