For the past four weeks the Science Department has conducted a Science Outreach Program with Excelsior Primary School and Canning Vale Primary School.
We invited 24 year 5 students from each school to visit CVC, where we run hands-on learning sessions in our specialist Science laboratories. Below is the activities program.
Lesson 1 – Introduction: Welcome to the Science lab/Scavenger hunt.
Lesson 2 – Biology: Microscopes/Bone dissection.
Lesson 3 – Chemistry: Fantastic foam.
Lesson 4 – Physics: Creating wind turbines.
In addition to the activities above, students were provided with a tour of the College, Science Department/STEM facilities and provided a demonstration of the solar cars and track, the Year 10 STEM class has been working on this year.
At the end of the program, students were presented with a certificate of completion and a goody bag.
Our goal was to share our passion for science with upper primary students, to strengthen curriculum links between primary and secondary school Science. We have received excellent feedback from the students and teachers, and we plan to run the program again in 2024.
A big thank you to all those involved.
