This term our year 9 students have been learning about Australia’s Political system. As part of this unit, the students brought politics to life by creating their own political party and trying to convince their classmates, education assistants, and guest teachers why they should vote for their party.
Students created a logo, slogan, party platform, key policies and campaign posters in preparation for the class election. The classroom was transformed into a polling place, with students acting as ‘election officers’, ticking names off the ‘electoral roll’, controlling the queue and guarding the ballot box to prevent tampering.
After 7 nail biting rounds of preference redistributions using the preferential voting system, ‘The Aussie Forward Party’ won it all.
Congratulations to Evelyn Raffaele, N.G., and Janelle Sumooc whose victory was a reflection of their hard work creating well-thought-out policies and communicating them effectively to the voters.
