Last Friday, our Year 11 Earth and Environmental Science class combined great weather, spectacular views and hard work during an enjoyable fieldwork excursion to the river and coast. The excursion was guided by Australian Earth Science Education and took students to the banks of Freshwater Bay in Peppermint Grove to examine the exposed limestone cliffs formed by long-expired quarries. Then they headed to South Cottesloe beach to examine the weathered rock face, wave-cut platforms, fossilised coral and forest remains, providing them with insights to the geological and sea level history of the area dating back hundreds of thousands of years. Students were fantastic staying fully masked and covered despite the 39oC weather and humidity, and enthusiastic enough right till the end to learn so much from the experience.
