CVC Circus Troupe Perform at Perth Fringe Festival
The Canning Vale College ‘Act Belong Commit’ Circus Troupe, recently had the honour of performing as part of the 2018 Perth Fringe World Festival – the third largest fringe festival in the world!
Canning Vale College has been running the Extension Circus Arts Program and Circus Troupe for the past 9 years. The Program engages 87 dedicated and talented young circus performers from ages 12-18, who write and direct their own 50-minute stage shows that tackle important aspects of children’s mental or physical health awareness. This year’s show titled ‘There Is A Place For Us’ explored the themes of difference and inclusion.
Being accepted into the 2018 Perth Fringe World Festival as the only Public State School youth performance group was a huge achievement for the students involved. The Perth Fringe World Festival also placed the show within the highly coveted ‘Pleasure Garden’ in Northbridge, the hub of the circus performance venues.
The two sold out Weekend shows capped off an amazing 2017 season for the Canning Vale College Circus Troupe. To perform alongside truly gifted professional touring circus shows and in an authentic big top arena, was an incredible experience.
Students not only got a sense of what it’s like to be a successful performer in the Arts industry, but they also received real world experience of working with technicians and professional venues, with live audiences. It was truly a holistic endeavour that has a huge impact on a student’s experience and will not be easily forgotten.
