Remembrance Day Assemblies
As Remembrance Day this year fell on a Sunday, we as a College remembered our servicemen and women this week with three special assemblies.
As the Last Post played, the flag was lowered and all observed a minute’s silence to reflect upon the sacrifices made to preserve freedom and democracy for us and others.
November 11 is a special day throughout Australia and many other countries as we acknowledge the end of the First World War (Armistice) - Remembrance Day. 2018 is a particularly poignant year as it marks 100 years since the end of the First World War. On 11 November 1918, the war ended after more than four years. More than 32,200 West Australians enlisted for service in the First World War. This was the first truly global and modern war resulting in over 37 million casualties, through battle or disease, by the time the Armistice was signed exactly one hundred years ago on November 11.
