Enrolling at CVC

Thank you for your interest in enrolling your child at Canning Vale College.

The Department of Education has designated Canning Vale College as a local intake area secondary public school (Year 7-12). At times we may have capacity to accept enrolments from families living outside our local intake area. Please contact the college to check for availability.  

The local intake area for the College contains all or part of the local intake areas of the following primary schools:
•    Canning Vale Primary
•    Caladenia Primary
•    Ranford Primary
•    Campbell Primary
•    Excelsior Primary

As of 2017 our local intake area no longer includes the previous optional intake areas of Southern River and Harrisdale. Click here to download the 2017 map.   

Local intake applications for enrolment into Year 7 is organised with the assistance of the local primary schools during terms 1 and 2. For other enrolments, parents apply by contacting the College directly on 9334 9000 or emailing admin.canningvale.college@education.wa.edu.au.

Eligibility Requirements

To enrol at Canning Vale College there are a number of eligibility requirements. Please visit the Department of Education website for more information about the Department's Enrolment Policy and procedures relevant to a Local Intake school. The college has places for all those students whose family is living within the boundaries of the CVC local intake area as determined by the Department of Education, Western Australia.

Proof of Residence

To assist the College to determine the student’s eligibility under local intake, the following documentation needs to be attached to the application for enrolment:

• Proof of ownership of the property where the student will reside. This may be a current rates notice from the local council;
• Where the family is in a rental property, a copy of the rental agreement (minimum 3 months);
• Current Utility Bills (up to 3 may be requested): 
       Gas account (or recent connection advice)
       Water account (or recent connection advice)
       Electricity account (or recent connection advice)
       Any other documents that may support the application as proof of residence.

Additional documents required are:

• Copy of the Student’s Birth Certificate
• Copy of Passport and Visa details for the Student and Parent/s if the student is born overseas
• Proof of ID of the parents and or legal guardian (photo ID)
• Immunization Records 
• The student's most recent School Report

Parents are reminded that under the Education Act 1999, Division 2.20 “the Principal may cancel the enrolment if false or misleading information was given”
•    It is a requirement that the College is informed immediately of any change of address.
•    It is also a requirement that all the information provided is accurate.

The college reserves the right to suspend an enrolment should any of the information supplied on the enrolment application be fraudulent.

Eligible Age

Enrolment in WA schools is based on birth year of the student (we refer to this as being ‘age appropriate’). This is based on the students being the same age as their peers in that year group. A birth certificate should accompany the application for enrolment as proof of age.

• If your child was born between 1 July 1999 – 30 June 2000:
and your child is to start at CVC in 2017 they will be enrolled into Year 12.

• If your child was born between 1 July 2000 – 30 June 2001:
and your child is to start at CVC in 2017 they will be enrolled into Year 11.
and your child is to start at CVC in 2018 they will be enrolled into Year 12.

• If your child was born between 1 July 2001 – 30 June 2002:
and your child is to start at CVC in 2017 they will be enrolled into Year 10.
and your child is to start at CVC in 2018 they will be enrolled into Year 11.

• If your child was born between 1 July 2002 – 30 June 2003:
and your child is to start at CVC in 2017 they will be enrolled into Year 9.
and your child is to start at CVC in 2018 they will be enrolled into Year 10.

• If your child was born between 1 July 2003 – 30 June 2004:
and your child is to start at CVC in 2017 they will be enrolled into Year 8.
and your child is to start at CVC in 2018 they will be enrolled into Year 9.

• If your child was born between 1 July 2004 – 30 June 2005:
and your child is to start at CVC in 2017 they will be enrolled into Year 7.
and your child is to start at CVC in 2018 they will be enrolled into Year 8.

• If your child was born between 1 July 2005 – 30 June 2006:
and your child is to start at CVC in 2018 they will be enrolled into Year 7.

Application Process

Step 1:  Contact the college by phone 9334 9000 or email admin.canningvale.college@education.wa.edu.au to request an application for enrolment form.

Please note that for Year 6 students who attend the following local primary schools, the enrolment application forms will be delivered through the primary school although parents are welcome to contact us directly. Those schools are: 

•    Canning Vale Primary
•    Caladenia Primary
•    Ranford Primary
•    Campbell Primary
•    Excelsior Primary

Step 2:  Complete the Application for Enrolment Form. Please note applications will not be processed unless all required documentation is submitted. Please see the checklist provided with the Application for Enrolment Form.

Step 3: Submit the application. The application can be submitted in person or by post:

Step 4: A parent and student interview with the Student Services Manager will be arranged for those students wishing to enrol into Year 8-12 throughout the year. Year 7 Enrolment does not require an interview.

Step 5: Parents will be notified by the College if the application has or has not been accepted at the earliest opportunity. Please note that if a child has been offered a place from outside the local-intake area into a specialist program, it is not guaranteed that his/her siblings will obtain automatic enrolment at the College. Sibling Policy

Siblings are not assured enrolment at the College where the family is residing outside the College boundary at the time of the sibling’s enrolment, however first priority is given to these students.  

Special Needs

All special education needs enrolment applications should be submitted and marked for the attention of 'The Principal - Teaching and Learning Support'. 

Overseas Students

Students who were born overseas must be Australian citizens or permanent residents, or hold an appropriate visa before applying to enrol. For overseas students who are in Australia using an entry visa it is necessary that we sight the passport and visa of the parent – the primary visa holder - as well as the students' visa. These must be sighted at the time of lodgement of the application. The visa number will also determine the fees (cost of education) to be charged, and you may be advised to contact TAFE International Western Australia for further information.

Cancellation of Enrolment

The Principal may cancel the enrolment of a student at the College if the Principal is satisfied that:
•    the enrolment was obtained by the giving of false or misleading information, or
•    if a change of place of residence occurs and written notice has not been provided.

Change of Address

Parents are also required to notify the College in writing via email or student update form (this form can be collected from the Business Centre) of any other changes to contact details, including the parent's Emergency Contact Name and Telephone Number.

Special Programs
